Create a KibiPay User in Seconds With One-Time Codes

Signing up for a payments demo should not feel like filing paperwork. The classic flow asks you to invent a password, prove you are human, click a confirmation email, and only then start exploring. KibiPay throws that ceremony out. You can create your own user in seconds using a single one-time code, then immediately start moving test money across rails. This post walks through exactly how it works and why we built it this way.
What a one-time code sign-in is
A one-time code (often called an OTP, for one-time passcode) is a short, single-use number that proves you can receive messages at a given phone number or email address. Instead of storing a password you have to remember, KibiPay sends you a fresh code each time you sign in. You type it back, we confirm it matches, and your session begins. Because the code expires quickly and only works once, there is nothing durable for an attacker to steal or for you to forget.
The 20-second flow
Creating an account looks like this:
- Open the KibiPay app and enter your phone number or email address.
- We send a short code to that destination.
- You type the code back into the app.
- Your user is created and signed in — done.
There is no separate "register" versus "log in" step. The first time you present a phone number or email, we create the account; every time after, the same code flow signs you back in. One path handles both, which is why it feels so quick.
Why there is no password
Passwords are the weakest link in most sign-in systems. People reuse them, forget them, and phish them. A one-time code sidesteps all three problems: there is nothing to reuse, nothing to forget, and a code that has already been used is worthless to a thief. We dig into the security case in why passwordless one-time codes are good UX and security.
Email or text — your choice
KibiPay lets you receive your code by email or SMS, whichever is more convenient. Some people live in their inbox; others want the code to land on the lock screen of the phone in their hand. Either works, and you can read more about picking between them in choosing where your sign-in code lands. If you would rather sign up with nothing but a mobile number, see phone-first accounts.
What you get the moment you sign in
A brand-new KibiPay user is not an empty shell. As soon as your account exists you are handed a demo wallet preloaded with $10,000 in test money, ready to send across any connected rail. You also get an @handle other users can pay, and an entry you can choose to list in the public network directory. In other words, you go from "no account" to "ready to transact" in a single step. We cover the wallet in your $10,000 demo wallet.
Designed for real people and for developers
The frictionless sign-up is not just a nicety for curious visitors. It also makes KibiPay a genuinely useful sandbox for developers evaluating payment flows. You can create several test users in the time it takes to make one coffee, wire them together, and watch a payment travel from sender to recipient. Because each account is real inside the demo — with its own wallet, statement, and directory identity — the flows you build behave the way they would in production, minus any real money.
Privacy from the first tap
Even though signing up is instant, your details stay protected. The phone number or email you use to receive codes is never exposed on your public profile. The directory shows your chosen handle and, optionally, a display name and photo — never the raw contact details behind them. That principle runs through the whole product, and we explain it in privacy by design.
Try it now
What if the code does not arrive?
On the rare occasion a code is slow, you have options. If you asked for it by text, give it a few seconds — SMS depends on carrier networks — then request a fresh one; the old code simply stops working. If you used email, check your spam folder before retrying. And because you can switch between email and text at will, a stuck channel is never a dead end: fall back to the other and carry on. All of this is by design, so a hiccup in delivery never locks you out of your own account.
The fastest way to understand passwordless sign-in is to do it. Head to the KibiPay app, enter a phone number or email, type the code we send you, and you will have a funded wallet and a payable handle before the page finishes settling. From there, follow our two-minute walkthrough to send your first payment. Browse more guides on the KibiPay blog.
